Welcome! So glad you are visiting our farm today through our Website. We have many wonderful programs at Cherry Ridge where we always strive to be true to our mission statement: Enriching Lives-Fulfilling Dreams! But let me tell you a little about how we came to be.
Cherry Ridge Farms began in 2003 after my husband Jeff and I purchased the adjoining farm which was once owned by my husband's great Uncle Bob and Aunt Jennie Clemons. In 1914, the Clemons purchased their small 46 acre parcel resting on the western banks of White Oak Creek, Scott Township, Brown County, Ohio. Together they built the small white cottage which sets on the hill overlooking the creek. It is much like it was then. Uncle Bob "a prolific farmer" became known as the Watermelon King because he raised delicious watermelons, on the same fertile bottom land where we now grow pumpkins, corn and hay. The Clemons farm butted up to our family farm that we built our house on and was originally purchased by Jeff''s parents Guy and Gerry Mitchell in 1968. The historic place where the two properties join together is known as Kimball's Ford Crossing and was home to m many watermelon festivals we learned from the older generation. People even drove from Cincinnati, at one time by horse and buggies to the creekside and later cars. The crossing became quite the fun place for people for miles around came to fish, be baptized, picnic, hike and enjoy nature.
Since the new acreage already had the existing indoor arena and a stable barn, built by the previous owners, we opened for business as Cherry Ridge Stables offering boarding and lessons. Each year we added something new. Five years later, we have grown to include a Saddle Club, Therapeutic Riding, Outdoor Classrooms, Mini Horse Camps and the ever popular Fall Festival Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze.
Our oldest son Dan moved back from Texas 3 years ago with his World Pinto Champion and is our Stable Barn Manager. Kelly Watson, Batavia, Ohio came as a boarder and has joined up with us as our Outdoor Classroom Manager for our spring, summer and fall field trips but is also referred to as the Pumpkin Patch Lady by some kids, as kids remember her from their educational program in the pumpkin patch for our fall field trips. My Dad, Ed Phillips can be found driving the John Deere tractor for the hay rides and many other family members are involved in one way or another.
So enjoy your visit here and here's hoping you'll find something of interest that we might be able to join up together and enrich your life or perhaps fulfill your dream or someone near and dear to your heart, through our rural farming heritage and horses!
Blessings,
